Glossier – My skin but better..

As a teenager of the noughties, I grew up with the worst view on beauty. We were all constantly flooded with highly photoshopped images & caked on makeup. No one really talked about real skincare & no one really cared about SPF.

I’m now 27 and can see how those images & ‘IT girls’ made me have a very skewed view on my own skin & what make up should make you look like.

The ‘your skin but better’ tagline is now everywhere, thanks to brands like Lush, Glossier & now even the high street brands have latched onto it. I would have loved to have seen women like Allana Davison or Emily Weiss when I was younger, showing that there is nothing wrong with being pale, having breakouts or just being a human.

This is where my obsession with glossier skincare & makeup came from. Ever since it’s launch in the uk last year, I knew it was a brand I wanted to try and I’m so glad I did.

I now cherish a glowy skin ‘look’ which I always used to try and hide. I used to be obsessed with full coverage & a very matte finish, not only is this almost impossible to achieve ever single day, my skin was basically suffocating.

If you have seen my previous posts, you will know that I love the Glossier phase 1 skincare set & the Lidstars. But this post, I’m going to rave about their boybrow & cloudpaint.

I have been using them religiously for months now & I can tell you that they are 100% worth the hype!

I have naturally quite thick & dark eyebrows, which for most of my life were plucked & waxed beyond recognition (like most of us) now I can finally embrace them – let them be thick, let them be bold. The boybrow is perfect to add a little definition to your brows without going full ‘scouse’.

Next favourite is cloudpaint in Beam. I must have watched the videos of the Glossier girls using the cloud paint hundreds of times before I actually bought it. As a pale girl, blusher has always been my essential makeup item & after years of only using the Benefit dandelion, I knew I needed a change. Not only was I changing colour, I was changing brand & style, but I am so thankful I made the jump. From the first time I used it, I have not looked back.

Not only do I love the colour, application & effect, it wears all day & the texture of my skin has improved so much! My skin can actually breath while I’m wearing this tint, unlike when I used layers of powders.

Don’t get me wrong, full coverage queens are still absolute #goals, but I now know it’s not the look for me. I’m so glad I took the jump & started to  embrace my real skin. It’s a slow journey (growing out my eyebrows was a specifically painful part) but I am so glad I did. If you feel like your make-up routine has become a bit stale, or your style has changed, then I would definitely recommend Glossier.

Glossier’s ethos on make-up and skincare has a much more self loving & healthier view on loving your own skin. Embrace the flaws & use my makeup to highlight my favourite bits.

  1. I really enjoyed reading this – it’s a great post! I’m definitely a full-coverage fan, but slowly am debating taking the plunge to a more glowy natural look! Thanks for the tips! x
